Artist Manager Pebbles Speaks Out on Wendy Williams Show!

An artist manager has many responsibilities that can positively or negatively impact an artist. However, what happens when an artist manager is accused of being a snake in the grass? In today’s artist manager discussion we will talk about the history, business relationship, and updates of one of the most controversial artist manager, Pebbles Reid.

Let’s begin! In the late 90s, an artist by the name of Perri “Pebbles” Reid ventured off to create her own music label in Atlanta, Georgia.  The label would get a group that changed the face of the entertainment industry. Who would of thought that her first artists would be the mega girl group, TLC? The group consisted of three young women by the name of Tionne“Tboz” Watkins, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The group is well known for their powerhouse girl anthems and creative fashion trends. They sang and performed fan favorites such as No Scrubs, Creep, and Waterfalls. The three women reached diamond status under the management of Pebbles Reid, a first for any female group. They currently still hold the title of the highest grossing tour for a female group in history.

With all of TLC’s success, fans thought the trio was unstoppable. However, legal issues would leave the girls filing for bankruptcy. A highly publicized legal battle pointed the fingers at artist manager, Pebbles Reid. The public and girl group scrutinized Reid for stealing millions and mismanaging TLC’s money.  The backlash by fans caused Pebbles to go into hiding with little chance to tell her side of the story.

Nonetheless, for the first time in almost 20 years, Pebbles finally came out last week to dish her side of the experience on the WendyWilliams show. The interview was an open discussion that came about after the premiere of the new TLC biopic movie

According to Pebbles, VH1 misrepresented her and the situation in the movie. She then stated the contractual agreement that was signed by the girls. During the interview she talked about the spending habits of TLC, accounting issues, and legal representation for TLC. She explained how she recommended an attorney for the girls who eventually became the group's attorney.  In fact, Pebbles hinted at the incompetence of the attorney and the importance of understanding contracts. She spoke about the shady music business and her opinion of TLC. She currently plans to keep her options open and is thinking about pursuing legal actions against TLC and VH1's television network.

Pebbles Reid is currently working on a “Tell All” book to release new information about the situation. She currently is not working in the music industry and is focused on her marriage and family.

Watch the publicized interview below and give me your feedback on the situation.

Do you think Pebbles is being honest? Do you think that there is some funny business going on? Should Pebbles have focused on TLC’s spending habits? Would things have gone differently if exclusively TLC chose another attorney? Let me know your opinions below.
